Faramir is the second-born son of Denethor II, the younger brother of Boromir, the husband of Lady Éowyn, and the brother-in-law of Éomer.

Faramir was born in Minas Tirith as the second-born child and son of Finduilas and Denethor. Growing up, Faramir and Boromir grew close since childhood. While Denethor had tend to favor his older son, the two brothers never had a rivalry.
